As adolescents make the transition from childhood to adulthood, they are faced with an astounding assortment of challenges. Therapy for adolescents works best when a parent, family member, or caretaker is actively involved in the treatment process. The first appointment is a parent intake appointment for me to meet with one, or both, parents. This time is used is for me to learn about your child, your family, therapeutic concerns, goals, and any interventions that may have been attempted. Based on that information, I will explain to you a treatment plan that would involve both you and your teen, recommendations for home, and for frequency of therapy. When appropriate, I prefer to include older teens (ages 16 and up) in this initial intake appointment. If you and your teen are comfortable speaking freely together regarding the topics mentioned above, then please include your teen in the initial appointment.
